14th Annual Light Up Downtown North Wilkesboro
14th Annual Light Up Downtown
Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro organizers are planning the 14th Annual Light Up Downtown Christmas Celebration to be held on Friday, November 20th from 5:30pm – 9:00pm in Downtown North Wilkesboro.
Santa will be there from 5:30pm – 9:00 pm in the lobby of Wilkes Towers to listen to all your Christmas wishes. Free pictures will be available to take with Santa.
Hayrides will also be available to ride around the downtown and enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations.
There will also be lots of food, craft, and merchandise vendors lined down Main Street. Don’t forget to get a jump on your holiday shopping. Downtown Retailers will be open late to kickoff the Christmas shopping. Liberty Theater will also be open.
There will be two stages of entertainment. The first stage will be on 9th Street and the second stage will be at Melody Square on 6th Street. Various singing and dance groups will be performing. Mayor George Church will be on the 9th Street Stage at 6:00pm to flip on the Christmas Lights. In addition to the entertainment stages, various groups will be caroling the streets during Light Up.
New additions this year are emergency vehicles from the area will be on display shining their lights and helping Light Up Downtown. Santa’s Gift Shop will be open in the office of Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro, at 211 9th Street, for children to select gifts for friends and family.
All nine of Santa’s reindeer will be in attendance at this year’s Light Up Downtown at various shops downtown. A visit to each of the nine shops participating will turn into a progressive story about Santa’s reindeer. Each shop will be giving handouts about the reindeer’s history with Santa.
Smart Start will be hosting an adventure into Santa’s Reindeer Land at the Wilkes Art Gallery on C Street. Mrs. Claus will be reading a Christmas story, children will have the opportunity to have their faces painted as reindeers with antlers (FREE) and to complete their visit to Reindeer Land they will receive reindeer food to sprinkle in their yard to guide Rudolph on Christmas Eve.
The Wilkes County Public Library will be hosting the Master Elf at Santa’s Reindeer stable. Come by and take pictures as you learn about how Santa tends to all those reindeer.
The Wilkes Art Gallery will be open from 6:00pm-8:00pm showcasing their exhibits during Light-Up Downtown.
