As part of the ongoing downtown beautification program, Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro’s (“HDTNW”) Design Committee met recently to review a new grant application received. In accordance with the Design and Façade Improvement Guidelines, the committee approved the grant for F & P Investments for 902 D Street, the Faw Insurance building.
The proposed façade improvement involved reinforcing steel, masonry, structural steel, roofing, metal studs, glass, and glazing at the 902 D Street building. Upon recommendation by the Design Committee, the Board of Directors of HDTNW approved on January 15th the $2,000 façade grant application submitted by F & P Investments.
The goal of the program is to create an incentive for the Downtown North Wilkesboro property and business owners to restore, refurbish, and rehabilitate existing properties. Applicants are reimbursed one-half of the cost of the approved eligible façade improvements up to the maximum grant amount of $2,000. To date, 25 businesses have taken advantage of the façade grant program. The application process is relatively easy, but you must submit the application before the work begins. “We want to make more businesses aware of this program and to encourage them to take advantage of it”, said Melissa Smithey, Executive Director for Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro.
