Light Up Downtown 2008 A Success

We had another very successful Light Up Downtown (LUDT) this year in North Wilkesboro. Events such as this would not be successful without the help of so many people. First off, all of us at Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro (HDTNW) would like to thank the LUDT planning committee for their hard work and dedication.

We would also like to thank the Town of North Wilkesboro for all their hard work in helping to make the event run smoothly and to the North Wilkesboro Police Department for helping to make it safe for everyone. Thanks to the downtown businesses that stayed open late and participated in the window decorating contest. Thanks to Jeffery Elmore, Cathy McKenzie, and Mary Ellen Mikell for judging the Window Contest. Also, thanks to James River Equipment for providing the gator for the judges use during the event.
Thanks to Mayor George Church for kicking off the event.

We had many people volunteer their services and equipment for the event as well. Thanks to Matt Bizzell for the use of the sound equipment for the 9th Street Stage. We would also like to thank 9th Street stage manager Jason Carlton. Thanks to Frank Day for helping to manage the Melody Square stage. Thanks to the Town of North Wilkesboro for the use of their equipment for the Melody Square Stage. Thanks to Gerald Lankford for helping to get Santa from the North Pole, to Wilkes Towers for providing a place for Santa pictures, and to Roger’s Furniture for providing a chair for Santa. Thanks to Grand Rental Station of Wilkesboro for sponsoring the Santa pictures and providing Free popcorn for the children. Thank you to Rebecca Kenerly for decorating for Santa pictures. Thanks to Wilkes Journal Patriot for the ad sponsorship. Thanks to James Motsinger and Blue Ridge Tractor Company for providing tractors and drivers for the hayrides.

Thanks to Linda Absher, Sheila Brame, Sue Cashion, Clara and Danny Chastain, Vivian Collins, Debbie Ferguson, Donna and Junior Goforth, Gail Handy, Lanny Handy, Ike Johnston, Lisa and Laura Laufenberg, Matt Mayberry, Carolyn McDowell, Susan McNeill, Debbie Moser, Dane Thomas, Melanie Thomas, and and the LUDT planning committee for volunteering at the event.

An event wouldn’t be fun without the entertainment. Thanks to The Dance Company, Studio 68 Dance, Wilkes County Line Dancers and Foothills Cloggers, North Wilkes High School Northlanders, Tonya’s Academy of Dance, West Wilkes High School Chorus, Dancin 4 Jesus and Matt Bizzell.

Thanks to Smart Start for hosting Reindeerland. Thanks to all those who volunteered with the activities for Reindeerland.

Thanks to the Wilkes Art Gallery for hosting an Opening Reception of two new exhibits.

Thanks to the vendors who braved the cold to sell a variety of goodies: Humane Society of Wilkes, Truth Community Church, New Life Mobility Assistant Dogs, Wilkes Alleghany Red Cross and Wilkes Heritage Museum, Howell’s Fried Apple Pies, Wilkes Community Action Group, Maw Maw Bea’s, Jeanie’s Weenies, Hospice of Wilkes, Montessori Learning Center, and the Salvation Army.

Last but not least, thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy the event.
