We had another very successful Light Up Downtown (LUDT) this year in North Wilkesboro. Events such as this would not be successful without the help of so many people. First off, all of us at Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro (HDTNW) would like to thank the LUDT planning committee for their hard work and dedication. We would also like to thank the Town of North Wilkesboro for all their hard work in helping to make the event run smoothly and to the North Wilkesboro Police Department for helping to make it safe for everyone. Thanks to the downtown businesses that stayed open late and participated in the window decorating contest. Thanks to Jeffery Elmore, Susan Jackson, and Tammy Wise for judging the Window Contest. Thanks to Mayor George Church for kicking off the event. We had many people volunteer their services and equipment for the event as well. Thanks to Scotty Roten for the use of the sound equipment for the 9th Street Stage. Thanks to Frank Day for helping to manage the Melody Square stage. Thanks to Marvin Edgerton for the use of his sound equipment for the 10th Street Stage, and to the Town of North Wilkesboro for the use of their equipment for the Melody Square Stage. We would also like to thank stage managers: Jason Carlton and Marie Costello. Thanks to Gerald Lankford for helping to get Santa from the North Pole, to Wilkes Towers for providing a place for Santa pictures, and to Roger’s Furniture for providing a chair for Santa. Thanks to Wilkes Journal Patriot for the ad sponsorship. Thanks to James Motsinger and Blue Ridge Tractor Company for providing tractors and drivers for the hayrides. Thanks to Linda Absher, Cathy Bowers, David Bowers, Sheila Brame, Vivian Collins, Angela Day, Debbie Ferguson, Gail Handy, Jolene Howard, Lisa Laufenberg, Eric Mathis, Alison Pipes, Bob Skees, Dane Thomas, Melanie Thomas, and Shiloh Wiles and the LUDT planning committee for volunteering at the event. An event wouldn’t be fun without the entertainment.
