The 2007 Battle of the Bands was held on Saturday, September 29th on the Parking Decks of Downtown North Wilkesboro. Tiffany’s Place Teen Center and Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro, Inc. (HDTNW), two non-profit organizations, collaboratively organized the event.
More than 40 bands apply each year for a chance to perform, and a committee of volunteers determine which bands to invite to the Battle based on submitted music samples. Bands received an invitation from the committee.
Fifteen bands were scheduled to perform this year. The bands that were invited to perform are:
3 Quarters Dead, Adire, Blind Crisis, Color Show, Defying Belief, Deliverer, Delorean, Friday Never Counts, Mile High School, Misgiven, Resurrection, The Bree Musketeers, Thrasht, Two Corpse Garage (2cG), and Vintage Tone.
The musical styles include a wide range of blues rock, contemporary rock, pop rock, Christian rock, emo, and heavy metal. All bands are required to perform their own original music, and represent North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The Amateur band, Jet City Orange (aka Billboard Story) took away a cash prize of $250.00, and the Professional band, Misgiven was awarded a cash prize of $1,000.00. Other awards were also given; Best Instrumentalist – Blind Crisis and Best Vocals-Adire. Winners were selected by a panel of judges, as well as by votes from the audience.
Gates opened at 3pm, with the Amateur bands starting around 4:00pm, followed by the Pro bands at 6:00 pm.
The event is appropriate for all ages. No alcohol is allowed on the premises, and security is also provided. Admission was $10.00 at the gate and T-shirts are still available for sale for $10.00. T-shirts can be purchased at Tiffany’s Place in Benton Hall on 300 D Street in North.
Bands setup to sell their CDs and other band merchandise, as well as a meet-and-greet station for autographs.
Vendors sold pizza, drinks, water, funnel cakes, fried Oreo’s, fried twinke’s, frozen candy bars, lemonade, hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows, and jewelry.
