Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro’s (HDTNW) Third Annual Shine to Wine Festival will be held in North Wilkesboro on Tenth Street, between Main and D Streets, on Saturday, May 5th from 11am – 5pm.
The Shine to Wine Planning Committee decided to dedicate this year’s festival to Benny Parsons. Benny and his wife, Teri, attended the festival last year and told the committee that they planned to be pouring at it this year’s festival. Benny passed away on January 16th of this year. With his plans to move back to Wilkes and start a vineyard, it only seems fitting to honor him and his family with this dedication. There will be an area at the event depicting his racing career.
Festival goers will be able to taste and buy wines from North Carolina wineries. As of now there are eleven confirmed vineyards attending the festival. They are Allison Oaks Vineyards, Brushy Mountain Winery, Cerminaro Vineyard, Chateau Laurinda Vineyards, Flint Hill Vineyard, Ginger Creek Vineyards, Grassy Creek Vineyards and Winery, Old North State Winery, RagApple Lassie Vineyards, Stony Knoll Vineyard, Thistle Meadow Winery, and Weathervane Winery. For a list of new vineyards participating as they register, please visit www.DowntownNorthWilkesboro.com.
Attendees can also enjoy the food, merchandise, and art vendors. Matt Bizzell and the Red Belly Dance will be entertaining festival goers. Tickets for the wine festival are $15 in advance until April 21st, and $20 after April 21st and at the gate.
