11th Annual Light Up Downtown
Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro organizers are planning the 11th Annual Light Up Downtown Christmas Celebration to be held on Friday, November 17th from 5:30pm – 9:00pm in Downtown North Wilkesboro.
Santa will be there from 5:30pm – 9:00 pm in the lobby of Wilkes Towers to listen to all your Christmas wishes. Free pictures will be available to take with Santa.
Hayrides will also be available to ride around the downtown and enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations.
There will also be lots of food, craft, and merchandise vendors lined down Main and Tenth Streets. Don’t forget to get a jump on your holiday shopping. Downtown Retailers will be open late to kickoff the Christmas shopping. Liberty Theater will also be open.
There will be three stages throughout the downtown with entertainment. The first stage will be on 9th Street, the second stage will be on 10th Street at the Brushy Mtn. Ruritan Park, and the third stage will be at Melody Square on 6th Street. The schedule for each stage is as follows:
9th Street Stage

5:00 Wilkes Acoustic Folk Society 6:15 Studio 68 Dancers 6:45 Donna Wagoner & Family Gospel 7:15 WCHS Latino Dancers 7:45 NWHS Band 8:15 Wilkes Acoustics Folk Society Smart Start will be hosting an adventure into Santa’s Reindeer Land at the basement of the Art Gallery on C Street. Children can write a letter to Santa and The Record will be publishing selected letters. Mrs. Claus will be reading a Christmas story, children will have the opportunity to make a tree ornament and faces will be painted as reindeers with antlers to complete their visit to Reindeer Land. Follow the reindeer signs to Reindeer Land. Children participating in Reindeer Land will receive a free children’s pass to The Christmas Carol, a play performed by Wilkes Central High School at the Stone Performing Arts Center.
The model railroad layout at Black Cat Station (located at the former Wilkes Art Gallery) will be open from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, in conjunction with the downtown lighting ceremony. The layout is operated by the Yadkin Valley chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. There is no admission charge.
