Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro’s tour of townhomes on Saturday, June 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM was attended by nearly 200 enthusiastic people. The purpose of the tour was to allow people to experience the convenience and comfort of living in the downtown North Wilkesboro historic district, as well as to showcase the talents of downtown area food and beverage establishments. It featured visits to four upper-level townhomes, with beverages and hors d’oeuvres in each home compliments of downtown North Wilkesboro establishments.
The downtown North Wilkesboro homes on the tour included Tom and Jesse Ogburn’s sophisticated townhome at 218 Ninth Street above IS&C Insurance, the newly-completed townhome of Buddy & Lib Forester at 205 Tenth Street in North Wilkesboro above Wachovia Securities, Chuck Forester’s modern professional’s townhome above his offices at Tenth & Main, and the eclectic townhome of Ken & Laura Welborn at 911 Main Street in North Wilkesboro.
Beverages in all homes were furnished compliments of the newly-opened Genu-Wine Spirits located at 104 Sixth Street across from Melody Square. Food in the Ogburn’s home was courtesy of Talia Espresso Bistro located at 809 Main Street. 6th & Main Restaurant & Bar located at 210 Sixth Street furnished the food at Buddy and Lib Forester’s home. The food in the Chuck Forester’s home was provided the soon-to-open Branciforte’s Brick Oven located at 810 Main Street next to the Liberty Theater, and Main Street Café located at 833 Main Street in the historic Brame Drug Store furnished the food in the Welborn’s home.
At the conclusion of the home tour at 8:00 PM, ticket holders were treated to an ice cream dessert at the Wilkes Art Gallery courtesy of Brushy Mountain Smokehouse & Creamery. Local Realtors were also on hand at the Gallery to display properties for sale or rent in or near the historic district for those whose interest in living downtown had been stimulated by the tour.
