Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro organizers are planning the 10th Annual Light Up Downtown Christmas Celebration to be held on Friday, November 18th from 5:30pm – 9:00pm in Downtown North Wilkesboro.
This year’s celebration is bigger than ever. There will be three stages throughout the downtown with entertainment. The first stage will be on 9th Street and will feature performances by West Wilkes Chorus, Little Miss Snowflake Winner and two runners up, Main Street Baptist Church, Tonya’s Academy of Dance, Edgewood Church Choir, Traphill Cloggers, Seniors on Stage, and Studio 68. Mayor Steve Foster will also be on stage to turn on the Christmas Lights. Ed Racey from WKBC will be the emcee.
The second stage will be on 10th Street and will feature performances by Wilkesboro Puppets & Clowns, North Wilkesboro Presbyterian Church Choir, Tutsi Rolls Gymnastics, Wilkes Central Band, and Wilkes Central Chorus.
The third stage will be in the parking lot of Melody Square on 6th Street and will feature performances by Wilkes Acoustic Folks Society, Studio 68, North Wilkesboro Baptist Choir, North Wilkes High Band, North Wilkes High Chorus, Tonya’s Academy of Dance, and Crossfire Church Choir.
Steve Handy will also be at Melody Square at 6:15pm to kickoff his rickshaw ride down Main Street and will be available for photos with his rickshaw. The ride will begin at Melody Square at 6:30pm and will go down Main Street, North Wilkesboro and end at 10th Street where Steve Handy will be available for more photos with his rickshaw. Raffle tickets to win the ride are $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00. Tickets can be purchased at Minton’s Pawn Shop during the “Hometown Opry” or at Browse About Book Exchange on Main Street. The winner will be announced on the “Hometown Opry” show on the morning of Friday, November 18th.
Santa will be there from 5:30pm – 9:00 pm in the lobby of Wilkes Towers to listen to all your Christmas wishes. Free pictures will be available to take with Santa. Hayrides will also be available to ride around the downtown and enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations.
There will also be lots of food and merchandise vendors lined down Main and Tenth Streets. Don’t forget to get a jump on your holiday shopping. Downtown Retailers will be open late to kickoff the Christmas shopping. Liberty Theater will also be open. Available movies will be in a later press release.
