Eighteen decorative flowerpots were purchased over the summer and spread throughout Downtown North Wilkesboro as part of a downtown beautification project by Historic Downtown North Wilkesboro (HDTNW).
"Each pot contained a variety of flowers and plants generously donated by Lowe's Home Improvement," said HDTNW Executive Director, Melissa Smithey. These flowers grew and prospered over the summer making a beautiful display for many downtown visitors. They included perennial grasses, cannas, heat tolerant Wave petunias, verbena, gem magnolia trees, arborvitae, and two types of sun loving coleus.
For the cold seasons, the pots have been winterized to last through the colder weather. New plants have been added to add color to the downtown area, including violas, pansies, flowering cabbage and kale. Violas and pansies tend to flower in winter weather, especially if we have a few warmer days. This was made possible by the generosity of Gary Watts, owner of Midtown Market who donated the 75 plants that were necessary to fill the flowerpots. Midtown Market is located at 339 Wilkesboro Avenue, North Wilkesboro.
Past HDTNW President, Debbie Ferguson picked up and spent an evening planting all the flowers in the pots.
