Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Playmakers at Benton Hall! The Celtic Coffee House is back by popular demand - with coffee, desserts, and an intimate coffee house atmosphere. Entertainment will be provided by The Highland Fling from Asheville, NC and The Forget Me Nots. All tickets are $8.00 and will go on sale March 1st. Cultural Arts Council of Wilkes - March 23, 2010
Join the Cultural Arts Council’s Literary Crawl at the Wilkes County Public Library. Scott Owens will be reading poetry from one of his five collections in the Friends of the Library Room. Scott teaches English and creative writing at Catawba Valley Community College and has published more than 500 poems in journals including Georgia Review, North American Review, Beloit Poetry Journal, Hayden's Ferry Review, Cream City Review, and The Pedestal. His work has received awards from the Academy of American Poets, the NC Writers' Network, the NC Poetry Society and the Poetry Society of SC, and been nominated for 2 Pushcart Prizes and a Best of the Net Award, and read recently by Garrison Keillor on The Writer's Almanac. 6:00-8:00 pm

First Annual Cutest Baby Contest - March 12th - March 27th
The First Annual Cutest Baby Contest will be held in Melody Square at 101 Sixth Street on Friday, March 12th from 2-5pm and Saturday, March 13th from 10am-2pm. Entrance fee is $20 per child. Only one child per sitting. No sitting fee or additional fees. Each entry will receive an 8X10 portrait and be entered to win the grand prize to be announced on Saturday, March 27th. All entries will be displayed in Melody Square stores from Saturday, March 20th until Friday, March 26th. The public is encouraged to come out and vote for the Cutest Baby. Only one vote per person. The baby with the most votes will win the grand prize which is valued at over $500 in free products and services. There will be only one winner for the 2010 contest.

Tom Dooley - Sixth Season! - April 3 - July 30, 2010
Opens June 23rd outdoors at Fort Hamby Park Amphitheatre - Hwy 421 North, Wilkesboro, NC with a special pre-show Grand Opening concert by The Kingston Trio. Remaining outdoor performances are: June 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30 at 8:30 p.m. The show will then open for indoor performances at Benton Hall, 300 D Street, North Wilkesboro on July 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29 at 7:30 p.m. and July 23 & 30 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for both outdoor and indoor performances may be purchased online at www.wilkesplaymakers.com, or by calling 336-838-7529 or by coming by our box office at Benton Hall, 300 D Street, North Wilkesboro on April 3rd. All tickets are $15 each with the exception of the Grand Opening night with The Kingston Trio. Ticket prices for Kingston Trio/Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend - on June 23rd - are $25.00 each. The Kingston Trio performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a ribbon cutting for the new Amphitheatre and the show will start at 8:30 p.m.

Youth Art Celebration - February 2, 2010 - May 15, 2010
On display from February 2 until May 15 at the Wilkes Art Gallery.
The Wilkes Art Gallery will host four months of youth art exhibits beginning on February 2 with the Central district. Each exhibit will feature artwork from the elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools in their respective districts.
The schedule is as follows:
Central Wilkes District - February 2-27; Opening Reception: Tuesday, February 2 from 5-7pm.
West Wilkes District - March 2-20; Opening Reception: Tuesday, March 2 from 5-7pm.
East Wilkes District - March 22-April 17; Opening Reception: Tuesday, March 22 from 5-7pm.
North Wilkes District - April 20-May 15; Opening Reception: Tuesday, April 20 from 5-7pm.
